They are all hand made by Master Potters, using traditional methods and skills handed down over many generations. The terracotta pots we stock are made using Galestro clay, a high quality raw material found only in a small area of Tuscany. A very dense and viscous clay, Galestro is hard to work but terracotta pots made with it are of very high quality and frost resistant to -20 degrees with proper care. Still an Artisan trade, the terracotta pots are made by pressing the clay into traditional moulds which are removed after a short drying period. The outside is then worked by the potter and following an extended slow drying process (several weeks for the very large pots) they are fired at very high temperatures for several days. Grey in colour prior to entering the kiln, the clay takes on its unmistakeable light rosy patina after firing and they are then left to cool and soaked with water in a wet room. The result…. a very durable yet beautiful terracotta pot or Vaso in Italian. These large classical pieces sit well in many different garden styles; mediterranean, terrace, courtyard or English country garden and although ideally suited to specimen tree and shrub planting such as Olive, Bay and Box, also look stunning planted with fruit trees, bedding plants or bulbs. Testimonials "Not being computer literate it took me quite a while to troll through the myriad and often disappointing web pages of companies selling ‘garden pots’ .In the main most were highly unsuitable for my purposes as I wished to match two large terracotta Italian pots that we inherited when we moved into Beechlands forty years ago. Then bingo, Mud Mountain with pots that perfectly matched our originals. My wife particularly is very pleased with the four handsome Italians (pots that is ) that you delivered bang on time and having planted them up over the weekend they are precisely what we wanted, many thanks for all your help and we will most certainly recommend Mud Mountain to anyone who asks where we got our magnificent pots." Best wishes Peter Allchurch Petersfield, Hants. "Hi Lorrayne, Thank you for the lovely pots and your excellent service. We will certainly order from mud mountain again!" Mrs W Oxford “I’m delighted with the large terracotta pot from Mud Mountain – looks great, the colour blends in well and it should be robust. Mud Mountain arranged prompt delivery with a trusted courier.” Jonathan, Northants. "I have owned two of your beautiful pots for quite a while now. Today, whilst wondering what to plant in them this year, I was browsing your website for inspiration. I read there some of the testimonials and wished I had added my own much earlier than this; however, better late than never. My pots give me so much pleasure in my small garden throughout the year. The smaller of the two is planted with a rose which is obviously bare in winter but, when surrounded with hardy pansies and spring plants, looks good until new shoots appear and summer takes over. The larger, tall urn spills over in the summer with bedding plants (in a hanging basket placed on top) but looks equally attractive sporting evergreens and colourful hardy cyclamen over the winter period. Even when totally empty the pots are beautiful, as can be seen from the wonderful, true to life pictures on your comprehensive website. So, thank you". Anne Scottow Surrey "Please find photos of our two wonderful pots purchased from Mud Mountain Not only great pots but great service with quick and efficient delivery We love them as does the garden" Megan Turmezei Headington, Oxford. "Dear Stewart I just wanted to thank you for such excellent service. I love my pots and having them delivered and placed so carefully by yourself was much appreciated. Kind regards Lindsay" Lindsay Stride Marsh Gibbon, Oxford "We ordered our Conca Classica Pot from Mud Mountain when we met them at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival. We loved their products direct from Italy, their great knowledge & wiliness to offer advice. The order process, customer service and delivery were all excellent and we would not hesitate to recommend Mud Mountain and would definitely order from them again." David & Sarah Solihull "Mud Mountain recently sourced and supplied me a particular large terracotta pot that I had been searching for. It’s a semi circular pot which is ideal to place against a wall in a London garden where space is at a premium. Their service was efficient and professional. The price of the pot (including delivery) was a lot less than a London supplier. Delivery was arranged for a specific date and I was kept informed of progress every step of the way. The pot was carefully packaged and arrived in perfect condition. I would certainly recommend them for quality and range of pots and a great service. I will definitely use them again." Laura Fearon London "We are delighted with our terracotta pots, planted up and in position, purchased 2 weeks ago. Hope you do well at Malvern Show." Best wishes Serena Gaylard Serena Gaylard S. Gloucester "I have been a customer of of Mud Mountain for several years and although I have a small garden I have very many containers of varying sizes. They look stunning especially when planted. I am always being asked where I get them from and find many are surprised to find that they are based locally to me in Somerset. They not only get unique products but helpful advice and follow up. Each year I find myself adding to my collection. I have no hesitation in recommending them. If you can manage to view them in situ you will not be disappointed. The website however is very representative." Barbara Dem Taunton, Somerset "I bought four pots from Mud Mountain in July 2014. I recall, I did spend some time trawling the net looking for something appropriate, but it was Mud Mountain that seemed to me to offer the widest range of attractive pottery at sensible prices. The website showed to advantage the goods you had for sale; I also found it easy to navigate and to place my order. There were no difficulties at all with the purchase of the pots, which were delivered at the time promised and in perfect condition, by a friendly and helpful driver. They have weathered very nicely in the 20 months that they have been out on the patio, and have survived two winters unscathed. I have certainly been happy with my purchases, would be pleased to do business with Mud Mountain again, and would have no hesitation in recommending you to others. Five star service all round!" Richard Ford Reading, Berks. "Hi Lorrayne just a quick note to say how pleased I am with my two Conca Festone!! My agapanthus look beautiful in them, look forward to buying from you again in the autumn, best wishes always Huw" Huw Roberts Bridgend "Mud Mountain have an excellent selection of genuine clay vases which they import from the potteries in the heart of Italy, they are the real authentic article when you are looking for that less is more Wow! factor in your garden or outside spaces. It was a delight to do business with Lorrayne who takes a real interest in her clients and their views, hence her invitation to clients for their testimonials. She took great care in packaging the vases and understanding our requirements with regard to transportation. I would certainly recommend Mud Mountain to others but actually want to keep them a secret also as their product range is so unique. When our budget allows I would certainly use Mud Mountain as first and go to supplier. I Am genuinely envious of the business they have developed mixing passion with commerce a real winning combination." Phil Brown Worksop, Notts. "I was so pleased with the pot and the service that I received from you that I am delighted to write a testimonial. Firstly I think you have an excellent, aesthetic and informative website which makes it very easy to observe, choose and buy a pot. Your very personal help and attention when I rang to speak to you personally was really excellent, helpful and friendly. You did everything in your power to help with the delivery. The Tuscan pot lifts my heart every time I look outside and I have recommended the company already to many of my friends and will come to you whenever I need more in the future". Jenny Tyson Chichester, West Sussex "We very much enjoyed our pot buying experience as it was so nice to have personal attention at your house. It was easy for us to get to you (good directions) & you had plenty of time availability to fit in with us. Our children had given us the voucher for pots as a special anniversary present & we were impressed with your range. There were plenty of large statement-making pots which are not cheap, but appear to be of excellent quality & look impressive. We haven't had much frost this year but so far very good! I would certainly recommend you to others. Regards & with best wishes for the success of your business". Jill Engert Taunton, Somerset "The service I received was first class. I was lucky enough to live within reasonable distance to receive personal attention from the owner of the business. The items ordered were not just delivered but man handled through the house and placed in position and lined. Since the initial order I was delighted to place a further order that received equal dedication. A delight to do business with."
